CHRISTIAN SHORT FILMS - OUR GUIDELINES
Ultimately communicating the gospel of Christ, our illustrations, worship backgrounds, and pre-service countdowns have another common thread: they are all effectively utilized within a church service, small-group, or classroom. Whether dramatic, comedic, graphical, acted, scripted or interviewed, we receive a wide range of films that are sold from our website. We encourage meaningful films of quality and creativity. All submissions are previewed by our Film Review Panel and scrutinized by the following guidelines:
Message: Videos must be Biblically accurate, contain Christian themes, or be appropriate, relevant, or useful in a church service.
Audio: Voice and music must be heard clearly. If the audience is strained or distracted by the quality of audio, there is reason for rejection. Also, audio that is not in-sync with the video, is unacceptable.
Resolution: The quality of the video is very important. If text, footage, or imagery, is pixilated, there is reason for rejection. Need help exporting your video? Click here, to read a detailed recommendation of settings on the Filmmaker Toolbox page.
Spelling/Grammar: Misspelled words, or sentences that do not make sense grammatically, are not acceptable.
Length: By definition, a "short film" is commonly 30 minutes or less. The dominance of pastor/church oriented clips means that videos over 5 minutes are often less popular. Bored, uninterested, and tiresome feelings are reason for rejection, regardless of the total duration. Typically, films under three minutes are most effective. Click here, to read interesting statistics on length and film at our Filmmaker Toolbox.
Copyrights: We must protect copyrighted material to ensure that filmmakers own the rights or have permission to use all audio and visual content. This means that any material not created by the producer must be used with expressed permission from the artist. Need more information on how to avoid copyright infringements or where to find talent-release forms? Click here, to visit the Filmmaker Toolbox page.
Extra: Actors can become a factor for rejection if the quality of acting is so poor that it makes the audience uncomfortable or is distracting from the message. Content that targets a single person or group in a slanderous way or in a misrepresented manner is not acceptable.
ROYALTIES
Sermonspice.com offers two, profitable agreements to our filmmakers that are suitable for your unique condition. Royalties are based on sales and your rate is determined by the agreement you choose. The more your films are purchased, the more you will receive in return.
Exclusive - 55% of Sales
We encourage all our filmmakers to become an Exclusive Filmmaker with Sermonspice.com.
This means you agree to selling your videos solely on Sermonspice.com and its affiliate
stores only, and not any third party website. The 55% royalty rate is one of the best
agreements anywhere and earns an outstanding revenue for you the filmmaker. Other exclusive
perks include:
- - Films earn SpicePoints to use towards free advertising of your videos
- - Films are featured on special holiday promotional pages if pertinent
- - Special offers on banner sales or other advertising packages
- - Eligibility for your films to be promoted as Featured Videos
An Exclusive Agreement does not prohibit sales from your own website or any distribution on DVD. The exclusivity only restricts digital downloads.
Non-Exclusive - 30% of Sales
This agreement grants you the freedom to offer you films in multiple places, yet still earn
a generous royalty off your sales on Sermonspice.com. The royalty rate for other products such
as books, music, etc. is often set much lower. But Sermonspice is conscious that the standard
rate is not enough to sustain our filmmakers, and our desire is for substantial filmmaker
profits to motivate the creation of better videos for pastors.

IRS FORM REQUIREMENT
Sermonspice.com is subject to the reporting requirements of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). As such, we are required to have a United States Taxpayer Identification Number assoicated with every royalty we pay. Royalties cannot be paid without a valid TIN.
For U.S. residents, Form W-9 must be submitted to Sermonspice.com. For non U.S. residents, Form W-7BEN must be submitted to Sermonspice.com.
Though you can upload your films at anytime, the IRS form and your chosen agreement must be received before you can begin making sales off your films.
